Taking a Break

Taking a break from Cat Jackets!  Today I am a bubble head (Lunesta hangover) so I better sick to instructions sheets instead of being creative with cat jackets! Time to think about my own wardrobe for the fall and winter months
Anna Boo says: kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaz. It is true that no matter what time of the day when I get ready to use the computer or keyboard, Anna Boo shows up to type.

Since I am house moth instead of a social butterfly, there is no need for stylish work clothes. At this time my wardrobe has basically become flannel pants and tee-shirts in the winter, tee shirts, and shorts in the summer. Most of my clothes are too small, due to a weight gain from a few steroid treatments or they are too big...

Not a pleasant vision for my wonderful husband! (Not that he complains, but I am sure  he has grown sick of seeing me in the same few outfits..)

A few weeks ago I got a dressmaking form so upcycling some of my clothes will be so much easier than trying to pin things up while I am wearing them. OH, BOY was that discouraging to pin clothes on me.  I am not the most coordinated human alive!

Today is housepants from some old material from the stash. This material is from the mid '80s...it looks like a big piece of material my sister was going to use in a 4H clothing project. (A southwest sort of a pattern, I remember her outfit well and how she sewed like G'ma Ruth did...and her awards!)
There has to be three yards of material. I noticed that there are some faded areas where the material was folded and stored on the shelf. Kind of like how the back of your furniture looks when it has been in the sun for years.  Ah, no matter. These are housepants for me to wear inside my house. A little fading might make the pants a little interesting.

After gathering up the supplies, ironing the material and pattern pieces, I proceed to start pinning and with the help of  Anna-Boo! Whenever I pin any tissue pattern onto material, she has to 'help', mostly by laying on the tissue and doing a twirl! (Such a silly cat...who is about five seconds from being put into a carrier! In other KITTY NEWS....Cassie Cat is checking out a box I have not torn down yet. It is long and full of scrunched up newspaper. It is the box the dress making form came in...oh no! The box fell over and scared that goosey cat!  Poor Little Pink Nose! My cats love to play in boxes!)
It has been almost two years since I have done any sewing for myself. As I mentioned before a few steroid treatments have made me "grow" and I have not lost that weight yet! Many family members think that G'ma Ruth is taking over my body!! Not such a bad thing since she was a wonderful person! I am going to make these housepants the size the pattern says that will fit my hips.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
After a few hours of sleep, I am less of a bubble head.

Back to sewing:
Perfering pants that have pockets and looking over the pattern again, I decided to put the pockets on the housepants. Very vintage looking! Double stitching the pockets on so they won't tear away with the funky things that I stick in my pockets in a day...!  Time to sew the pants together!

Dusting off the old sewing skill set!

I am so very behind on my sewing! Oh, it isn't even funny anymore, how behind I am!
First, there was the medical issues our Mother's had, then they are better, then relatives are coming and my house is a wreak! As if a tornado went thru here and dumped a couple of dorm rooms inside my house!

Now, I am a former speed cleaner. I could clear out and get a room clean in nothing flat. The reorganization of what was cleaned was another matter all together. These days, I am the complete opposite of myself. Took 3 days to clean up the kitchen, then a couple of days of napping. Pain wears you out!

My sewing projects have been put aside during the house cleaning phase of my year. But, the kitchen has remained in a state of clean for almost 2 weeks now! (Praise GOD!) I will have to get up and finish my dishes before this post is over. Can't let up on the pressure now! Must retain the wonder of how it feels to have your dishes done, even if you ran out of dishwasher soap two weeks ago and anytime anyone gets near the store, they remember it as dish soap...I have four new bottles of Dish Soap. Not one bottle of dish washing soap.

So, since a couple of weeks have already gone by I might keep hand washing the dishes for a few more weeks and see if there is any difference between hand washing the dishes instead of using the dishwasher on the water bill. Could be interesting to figure out which saves more water.

I seem to be on a quest to be more thrifty with the hubbs money. After both our mother's having health issues and the cost of each trip to home... I wonder where I can save more money for these things.

But this has nothing to do with why I needed to dust off my sewing skill set...

I have many clothes that are too small in the house...some will be saved for the day I will fit in them again. Some clothes that have been given to me that are too big, these I will upcycle, recycle and make into my lacking summer Weeble-robe.

I have bought several patterns for my summer Weeble-robe.

(I have gone a bit nuts about vintage patterns)

I have plenty of fabric on the shelf that I might be able to supplement my wardrobe.

Problem, I have not touched my sewing machine in months. Long enough to feel uncomfortable making a summer Weeble-robe that I can wear outside the house.

The decision to start with a house dress and or nightgown seemed to be a smart idea. If it turns out alright, then I will wear it outside the house or it is a house dress. Really badly....sleepwear.

The cutting out process was hell. I got new pinking shears and needed to find out what I remembered about pinking out a dress. I am going to use the standard sewing machine first. Then move to learning about my serger.

The garment is cut out, the machine is threaded, I have marked and pressed the pockets to the front of the dress and wow. Did not turn out as I thought...hum...Thought I had things more square than that... *sigh* It isn't too bad...but it is a dead give away that I have made this garment myself. Housedress....it is.

Next garment will go better. I am full learn mode!

Getting Real First...

Hello!

Just taking a break from cutting out a dress. I have not touched my machine in months... I am afraid!
Afraid it will take several garments to get back in the swing of sewing again.
After reaching the age where it is obvious I am a big girl, and should know how to dress myself...

A decision was reached. That is right.  A firm decision. Sometimes you can't fight genetics and medicine!
But I might not dress myself to the "norm.." standard....for my age group...I am just not that into what is out there for the middle aged woman. Some of it is rather, uncomfortable looking.
Confession...
I love fashion shows ...wish the models looked more like me. But walking hangers do present the clothing just as the designer dreamed.
But, I am certainty not a fast pace business woman, nor am I a socialite. So fashion is fun for me to watch, sometimes chuckle over, and get sucked into one show about clothing designers now and again.
I am a SAHW, I am middle aged, and I am uncomfortable.
Due to a giant flair up...(flair up meaning symptoms of my disorder are bothersome and limiting), a very different sort of discomfort came into my life.
I have gained weight. Thanks to modern medicine that keeps the symptoms in check but causes you to gain weight, and the giant flair up that keeps me from exercising everyday as I wish. Gaining more weight than I care to talk about, this IS my REALITY! To "ell" with all of you out there that give me looks. By golly I am a cute looking weeble! So Take that and stick it in your pipe!
I have been looking over my old clothes, trying to figure out which to recycle, upcycle or plain say goodbye. I have to figure out clothing that I am comfortable in, but don't look like I don't give a crap about how I look. Even the hardest days, I could have an outfit that won't make me look like I feel.
Looking thru every summery dress I have to see what I have to adjust before my daughters wedding day!

Okay, slow down. First thing was first. Get prepared for the BIG DAY!
I have set aside several outfits that will work. I have to put them on and see which dress does not ADD to the silhouette!! I am saving that small fashion show in my home for later.
Then go to what else I will wear while I am with other people. Something that will allow me to lay down if needed and rest, but not look like a giant mess....
Amazed at the amount of clothing I have collected in the last couple of years, it will take a couple of weeks or a month or two before I find the end of that project!  I have found all kinds of clothing to try on and figure out how to dress this new body style. I have grown up and matured all over the place.

How DO you dress a WEBBLE??
